Survivor stories
This page is waiting for stories that have been given, not taken
This space is reserved for stories shared by survivors who have given written, informed consent, on their own terms and under whatever name they choose. Maxine's Arms will not publish a story it was not given.
How consent works here
- Written, informed consent before anything is published
- The survivor chooses first name only, initials, a pseudonym, or full anonymity
- Identifying details are removed or changed at their direction
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and the story comes down
- No story is ever a condition of receiving services
What we will not do
- Invent or compose a testimonial
- Publish photographs of injuries
- Use a survivor’s worst night to raise money
- Publish anything that could identify a person’s location
- Pressure anyone to speak publicly
If you are a survivor who would like to share something, in your own words and on your own terms, get in touch. There is no obligation, and you can stop at any point.
Every part of this work is held up by someone.
Survivors reaching out. Advocates answering. Neighbors giving. Partners opening doors. There is a place in it for you.
