Every service Maxine’s Arms provides is free to survivors. That is a promise somebody has to fund.

Why it matters

A shelter is a building, a phone line, and people who stay awake

Someone arrives at two in the morning with a child and a bag. There is a bed made up, food in the kitchen, clean clothes in her size, and a person who says you are safe now, we can talk in the morning.

None of that assembles itself. Emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis response, counseling, children’s programming, case management, legal advocacy, transportation — all of it is provided at no cost to survivors, which means it is paid for by people who decided it should exist.

The program’s goal is to reduce harm, break cycles of violence, and support long-term stability.

Maxine’s Arms does not publish survivor photographs or stories to raise money, and does not use images of injury. Dignity is not something we set aside for a campaign.
