A site that is hard to use is a site that fails someone at the worst moment of their life.
Maxine’s Arms aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this website.
What is built in
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading order on every page
- A skip-to-content link as the first item on every page
- Full keyboard operation, including the menu, accordions, filters and Quick exit
- Visible focus indicators that meet contrast requirements
- Text and interface colors tested against WCAG AA contrast ratios
- Interactive targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels wherever practical
- Descriptive alternative text, and decorative images hidden from screen readers
- Form labels, hints and error messages that are announced, not just coloured
- Respect for
prefers-reduced-motion— all animation stops - Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide
- Pages that remain readable and usable with JavaScript switched off
Language
This site is published in English and is structured so that professionally reviewed translations — Spanish first — can be added without rebuilding it. Maxine’s Arms will not publish machine-translated crisis instructions without human review, because a mistranslation in a safety plan is a safety failure.
